On the night of the new moon in January 2021, I had the igniting idea for my planned collaborative 2D animation project: A cooperative, animated flower world, full of life and magic, with the three stick figures Gaia, Sol and Luna as the main characters…
Imagine we are part of a group of artists and dreamers and creatives working together on this project because we want to create something extraordinary together. Everyone contributes something to it. We all draw from the same ever-expanding creative pool.
We share our photos, graphics, sounds and ideas with each other so that something bigger can be created together.
We can crop our personal flower photos or self-painted flower images with transparent background and donate the PNG files to the community.
Or we record the buzzing of bees and bumblebees with a good microphone and share these sounds with the others.
We give each other tips and help on how an animated butterfly or dragonfly flies most beautifully, how ants and beetles crawl, and how we depict the germination of seeds and the growth of grasses, fungi, and mosses.
The graphic style is variable and completely free. Use photorealistic flower photos or experiment with creative filters, build new backgrounds, self-painted or artistically reinterpreted.
The animated and heart moving world is full of vitality, there is countless plant life, animal life, and who knows, maybe even magical fairies and other nature spirits are hiding in our Floral Wonder World?
Which creative pixel artist builds the most beautiful mushroom house, as a photomontage from dozens of mushroom pictures? Who puts together a selection of stick ladders, grass brooms or stone tools for us?
The main characters are three stick figures, with them the stories can be created.
Gaia, Sol and Luna live in a cooperative flower universe. They explore the world, help each other, plant new flowers, live in harmony with nature, have adventures, learn new things about their world, and they give each other flowers and love…
There is no place for violence, fear, antagonism and pathological egoism in a cooperative world. It simply does not exist here.
Why should one living being wish harm on another when in the Floral Wonder World all can draw equally from the common abundance?
Joy, love, empathy, connection, security, being, courage, self-worth, independence, freedom, truth, honesty, communication, well-being, creativity, wisdom, imagination, intuition, soul plan and unity consciousness…
I did not make up these themes. They are important values and qualities of life that we earth people have been assigning to our seven subtle energy centers (chakras) for thousands of years. So, in a way, we carry these qualities within us.
Well, at least more or less. Let’s learn to live these values anew! In an animated film, they can be tried out in a very practical way.
Let’s invent cooperative stories where there are no losers…. Let’s let this world breathe and live and love.
There’s one idea I’d like to copy from the successful Doors series animation projects. There, the stick figure protagonist walks into the picture at the bottom left and steps out at the bottom right.
This makes sense, because the animated mini-clips of the animation artists can be easily strung together one after the other.
But instead of doors (as in Doors), Gaia, Sol and Luna use a toadstool as a magical dimensional portal in the Floral Wonder World.
Touching it is enough to disappear from the right edge of the screen (slowly fade out?) and immediately appear in a new and completely different part of the world on the left edge.
So, even completely different graphic styles (photographic, drawings, comic) can end up fitting together.
It doesn’t even matter which of the three main characters you let appear at the bottom left of the portal mushroom. Start for example with Gaia (green), let her meet Sol (ocher) and/or Luna (violet) in your scene story…
The only important thing is: one of the three should arrive back at the end of your scene at the bottom right of the screen at another toadstool.
In order for the inner message of the film to be understood by as many viewers as possible, I would like to dispense with language as much as possible. Let’s rather find ways how Gaia, Sol, Luna and all other living beings in the Floral Wonder World understand each other telepathically and without words, let them rather act than speak.
The exchange among the graphic, sound and animation artists is conveniently in English. I have created a Facebook group for the project here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/cooperative.2d.animation
If you want to be part of this cooperative community project, in whatever form, or if you just don’t want to miss anything on the topic, the best thing to do is sign up now!
Here you can find the cut out toadstool and the three main characters as PNG (right click, Save image as…).
The mushroom should be used as a portal in each scene as described.
If you prefer to use your existing stick figures for your scene(s), that works too, but please color them in either green, ochre, or purple so we can assign your actors to either Luna, Sol, or Gaia.
Are you in? Let’s go! Everything else here in the blog or in the FB group. 🙂
